For those of us who have been lucky enough to be spectators in major events around the globe one thing is the key word for a fabulous rewarding experience, PLAN EARLY.

With hundreds of major events coming up in the sports world make sure your traveling and sports fun experience is the best possible. To achieve that, plan early, book early.

Look up the major events for the next years, check the dates, the competition schedule, make your choices for sports attendance in case of a multi sport multi venue event, and proceed with early bookings. Below you will find a small planning table for upcoming major events and timelines.

Major Event Timeline for planning (please remember that dates and competition schedule for major events are released at least two years in advance, all information can be obtained from their respective websites www.london2012.com, www.vancouver2010.org , www.singapore2010.sg, www.cwhdelhi2010.com , www.worldcup2010southafrica.com , www.sochi2014.com , www.gz2010.cn/en , www.guadalajara2011.org ).

Olympic Games & Football World Cup

1. -2 years Study the schedule and define your traveling dates
2. -22 months pre-book your flights and hotel rooms
3. -18 months book your competition tickets (or when tickets are released)
4. - 12 months book your local transportation (rental car) if not using public transport
5. -4 months, check for visa requirements and apply if needed
6. -2 months check for vaccination requirements

Other major events (Commonwealth games, Asian games, Pan-American games, WC Athletics etc)

1. -1 year Study the schedule and define your traveling dates
2. -10 months pre-book your flights and hotel rooms
3. -4 months book your competition tickets
4. - 3months book your local transportation (rental car) if not using public transport
5. -4 months, check for visa requirements and apply if needed
6. -2 months check for vaccination requirements

Please note that due to the fact that the city you are visiting is hosting a major event, there will be queuing lines for most of the tourist attractions, restaurants will require reservations months ahead, and there will be significant restrictions in transportation. Those with rental cars should be informed about restrictions in approaching the sport venues and means of public transportation.
